The president-elect’s first formal dress as president was a short dress with a short, black skirt that was purchased in New York City by the designer of an upscale spa.
The outfit was worn by Trump on the day he attended the ribbon cutting for the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., according to the New York Times.
The president tweeted the photo of the outfit on Thursday.
“The skirt was from the Trump spa in Atlantic City,” the president-now-president tweeted.
“My daughter Ivanka wore it, as well.
On Friday, Trump also tweeted that his wife, Melania, wore a similar skirt.
“My wife wore a skirt from the @TrumpSpa in Atlantic Town this morning,” Trump wrote.
“Great place to do business.”
As part of his campaign to build a better, more inclusive nation, Trump has called for the hiring of more women in leadership positions.
He’s also made an effort to diversify the country’s workforce, hiring a handful of women to help manage his real estate business.
The new dress, which Trump said was a “must-have for his office,” was purchased by designer Giorgio Armani, who said he was a longtime friend of the president.
The designer told The Associated Press in a statement that the purchase of the short dress “was an easy decision to make, and it was a beautiful choice.”
The dress was worn at the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday.
It was one of two dresses purchased by Armanis.
The president-president’s decision to wear a short skirt was first reported by The Washington Post, which quoted a source familiar with the matter as saying it was his first time wearing a dress in public.
